What time is check-in and check-out?
Check in is from 16:00 on the day of your arrival. We know you'll want to make the most of your holiday. If the cottage is available any sooner, we will message you to let you know you can get in earlier. The good news is you can still enjoy Portland Bill sooner. There is a public car park by the lighthouse. You can climb the lighthouse on your visit, go for a walk on the beautiful coastline, or stop for coffee or lunch at the Lobster Pot restaurant.
Check out is 10:00am promptly please.
How do we check in and out?
We operate a brief meet and greet service. It's a quirky little community of houses here, so we just need to show you on arrival where and how to park, and how to get to the garden which is detached from the house, plus a few extra things worth knowing. Then we'll leave you to it.
We'll liaise with you on the day regards your E.T.A.
You will be able to leave your keys in a key safe at the end of your stay.
Can I park outside the property?
Yes we have one allocated space directly outside the property. Being a small community of houses here on the bill, every house has its own private space. It is important to park correctly as advised by us, so as not to encroach on anyone else's space, or vehicular access.
If you have more than one vehicle, we can only accommodate one vehicle in the car park outside the property. However we can advise where you can likely park an extra vehicle nearby.
Please note our private space is only suitable for small - medium vehicles. Please contact us if you're unsure.
Do I need to bring towels?
No, we will provide a face cloth, hand towel and bath towel for every guest. You may wish to bring some beach towels in case you go for a dip in the sea.
What clothes do I need for a visit to Portland?
Our best advice on this, is dress for all weathers, even in summer! Being an island and on a peninsular, we tend to get our own weathers, differing to the mainland. We've known it to go from being a warm sunny day, to getting rain, hail, wind and thunder, all in a day! In summer, bring hats. In winter, bring two or more hats. The wind can be fierce when it gets up. Sometimes you'll need a hat upon a hat!
Is there a hairdryer?
Yes we provide a hairdryer in the property.
Is there an iron?
Yes we provide an iron and ironing board in the property.
What cooking facilities are in the property?
Our galley kitchen whilst small is very practical. It has a single electric under counter fan oven, and a 4 ring induction hob on top. We provide pots and pans and casserole dishes. There is also a microwave, as well as kettle and toaster.
Can I charge an electric vehicle here?
Sorry, no electric vehicles can be charged on site at present (it's on our wish list!) and guests must not attempt to charge by plugging a cable into the house. This is prohibited under the terms of our insurance.
The nearest places for electric vehicle charging are Tesco Superstore Portland (approximately 6 minute drive) and the Shell garage at the bottom of the island (approximately 12 minute drive)
I have mobility issues. Do you recommend the property?
Whilst we'll always do what we can to accommodate everyone, this is an old property with relatively steep narrow staircases, so may not be suitable for certain types of mobility issues. Please do contact us if you want to find out any further information for your particular situation.
